Design Project 1 - graded Pass - B1.2 - ID@TU/e
The final outcome of this design project is an interactive night buddy to help children fall asleep after a nightmare. It focuses on reducing the fear and stress a child experiences after they wake up during the night because of a nightmare. To get more insights into children’s, and particularly parents’ experiences in this context, we held an extensive survey with over 100 responses. This taught us the basic functionalities our product needed. With the gained knowledge, we started prototyping and iterating through several designs, as well as verifying the designs with user tests, which ultimately resulted in our final product Snoes.
Young children do not always see bedtime as a pleasant phenomenon. Either they do not want to go to bed, fail to fall asleep or they wake up scared in the middle of the night after a nightmare. When this happens, they often turn to their parents to seek comfort, who then have to wake up in the middle of the night. Or even worse, the children stay in bed feeling immobile and afraid, resulting in failing to fall back asleep and thus losing vital night rest. We think that these situations should be avoided at all costs, because both children and their parents deserve a good night sleep. This is where we saw the opportunity to make Snoes, an interactive night buddy to help children fall asleep after a nightmare.
